Ice Cave on Pluto
A Cool Spot

Sigh. There are worse places than Western Pennsylvania in the winter (or even northern New England in the winter), and this is one of them, with a mean temperature of about fifty degrees Kelvin.

That bright star visible out the mouth of the cave is the sun, about forty times farther away than the sun is from Earth. You might just be able to make out Pluto's moon Charon in the shot, below and to the right of the sun.

At least back here on Earth we know that Spring is coming, sometime....
